TEXAS Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG)


TEOG is a need-based financial assistance grant for enrolled students in a public two-year institution in Texas.

To receive TEOG initial (TEOGI) award a student must:

  • Be classified by the institution as a Texas resident
  • Be registered with Selective Service, or be exempt; and
    • has been electronically confirmed
    • or the student must sign a separate certification statement
  • Be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours as an entering undergraduate student in the first 30 credit hours (or its equivalent) of an associate degree or certificate program (excluding credits for dual enrollment or by examination)
  • Have applied for available financial assistance
  • Have financial need
  • Have not been convicted of a felony or crime involving a controlled substance in the state of Texas
    • The student is required to re-certify each year
  • Not have completed an associate or baccalaureate degree

To receive TEOG renewal (TEOGR) award a student must:

  • Have previously received TEOG initial
  • Be enrolled at least 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student working on an associate degree or certificate
  • Not have completed an associate or baccalaureate degree
  • Be classified by the institution as a Texas resident
  • Have financial need
  • Have not been convicted of a felony or crime involving a controlled substance in the state of Texas
    • The student is required to re-certify each year
  • Be registered with Selective Service or be exempt; and
    • has been electronically confirmed
    • or the student must sign a separate certification statement
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
